Telangana govt must allocate sufficient budget to clear dues of welfare schemes, demands Congress MP | Hyderabad News
HYDERABAD: Nalgonda MP N Uttam Kumar Reddy of the Congress on Saturday demanded that the BRS government make sufficient allocations in the ensuing state budget for 2023-24 fiscal to clear long-pending dues of various welfare schemes, poll promises and other projects.
In a letter to chief minister K Chandrasekhar Rao, Uttam said it has been a matter of concern that the BRS government has repeatedly failed to honour the financial assurances given to farmers, women and students.
The state government has caused a huge delay in releasing the dues for various schemes affecting lakhs of beneficiaries. While many of the welfare schemes announced by KCR- government have not been implemented fully, several important schemes remained ineffective due to the non-release of funds (dues), he alleged.
The annual budget for Telangana for the year 2023-24 is being presented in the first week of February. Since this will be the last budget of the BRS government before the assembly elections, the Congress MP demanded that the state government allocate sufficient budget to ensure the release of all pending dues,” he said in the letter.
Uttam demanded that the state government allocate Rs 20,000 crore for assured farm loan waiver, Rs. 4,000 crore to clear dues of women self-help groups (SHGs) and Rs 3,270 to clear fee reimbursement dues.
CM KCR had promised a farm loan waiver up to Rs 1 lakh to Telangana farmers on 2nd December 2018. However, crop loans of up to Rs 35,000 of each farmer have been cleared. The crop loans of those farmers who took up to Rs 1 lakh have not been cleared even till date.
“We demand you to allocate and release Rs 20,000 crore immediately for completion of Rs 1 lakh crop loan waiver promise to the farmers of Telangana as more than 20 lakh farmers and their families are still waiting for the loan waiver. Bank accounts of lakhs of farmers have been placed under Non-Performing Assets by the banks,” he demanded.
Uttam accused the BRS government of having removed nearly 10 lakh farmers from the list of beneficiaries on the pretext that they took loans from multiple banks. “This is a huge injustice as all farmers deserve to get benefits up to Rs 1 lakh from the crop loan waiver scheme even if they had borrowed from more than one bank. We demanded that the state government review the decision and do justice to the affected farmers,” he said.
