HYDERABAD: Telangana governor Tamilisai Soundararajan, who is a medical doctor, came to the rescue of her co-passenger after he complained of breathlessness on a New Delhi-Hyderabad flight on Saturday.
The governor was returning from Varanasi via New Delhi in the flight.
The governor responded to a distress call around 6.29 am on Saturday from the airhostess of the IndiGo flight in mid-air, who enquired about whether there is any doctor in the flight?
“Got up to rush to see a passenger looking drowsy sweating profusely c/o indigestion symptoms. Made him lie flat, checked vitals with first aid and supportive drugs and assurance there was smile on his face as much as on co-passengers. On arrival he was transported in a wheelchair to the airport medical booth. Appreciate IndiGo airhostess and staff for timely alert and facilitation,” Tamilisai tweeted.
The governor also made some suggestions to the IndiGo to impart Cardiopulmonary Resuscitations Skills (CPR) training to its crews on Board to help the sick on flight. “I advise even citizens to take a formal CPR training to save others in emergencies,” Tamilisai Soundararajan, who is also lieutenant governor of Puducherry, wrote on her twitter handle.
The first citizen of Telangana, who checked the vitals of the co-passengers with available first aid kits, made some suggestions pertaining to first aid kits to IndiGo too. “First aid kit must be kept in a ready to use stage and contents verified daily. Doctors travelling on board can be noted on travel charts as in railway for call SOS. At 4 am in mid -air I was awake to take a call. Your call may go unnoticed in sleepy hours,” Tamilisai said on twitter.
The governor was practicing as a gynaecologist before entering politics. She worked as Tamil Nadu BJP state president and unsuccessfully contested against DMK candidate in 2019 elections. During Covid-19 peak time, she visited many hospitals like Gandhi and NIMS in Hyderabad by wearing PPE Kits to review the situation.
Whenever she visits a hospital, she holds a stethoscope and checks the women patients enquiring about health.
