HYDERABAD: With the Godavari flowing above the third danger mark, 53feet (ft), several people were shifted to safer places in Bhadrachalam district on Wednesday. The water level touched 54.6ft at 9am, continued at that level for a few hours and dropped to 54.5ft when reports last came in at 5 pm.
Bhadradri Kothagudem district authorities shifted people from some villages along the Godavari to relief camps. People from Dandupeta, Veerapuram, Peddipalli, Kothapalli and Lingapuram were taken to the camps as a precautionary measure. However, the locals in Bhadrachalam town were asked to be on alert if shifting them would become necessary.
The authorities said the water level was expected to reach 56 ft and advised people not to venture out on to roads, which got inundated. Officials were asked to barricade or place tractors on unsafe roads so that they would serve as a warning to people not to proceed on the inundated highways.
The rains in Maharashtra have precipitated the flood situation for the district, third time in a month, as there were heavy inflows into the Godavari. The release of water from the Medigadda barrage of Kaleshwaram project also resulted in the swelling of the river.

People likely to be affected by the flood have been advised to take precautionary measures. Villagers of Sunnabatti, M Kashinagaram, Gongolu in Dummugudem, Dandupeta colony, Veerapuram, Peddipalli in Cherla mandal, Nellipaka banjara, Ramachandrapuram, Batti Mallayya Gumpu, Kummarigudem Kindhi Gumpu, Tekulagutta in Aswapuram mandal, and Chinnarayigudem, Kamalapuram, Annaram villages in Manugudu mandal have been alerted about the possible flood situation.
