Telangana: Congress terms KTR’s claim on GSDP and PCI growth as incorrect | Hyderabad News
HYDERABAD: The Congress has termed industries minister K T Rama Rao’s statement that Telangana has registered an increase by 130% in the GSDP and 125% in the per capita income as a “factually incorrect report with distorted data” which was strategically made public in view of chief minister K Chandrasekhar Rao’s tour to New Delhi.
Former minister Mohammed Ali Shabbir on Wednesday said KTR shared a news clipping to make the false claim of growth in GSDP and PCI. Ideally, the minister should’ve shared the original report of the union statistics and program implementation ministry if he truly believed that there was some truth in those claims.
The comptroller and auditor general of India (CAG) and the 15th finance commission have pointed out auditing errors by Telangana government in the budget figures and had mentioned inflated statistics to show higher revenues. Even the loans and borrowings were shown as state’s revenue. Therefore, the present claim by KTR, even if it was based on the statistics of the union ministry, is not reliable and could be manipulated data, alleged Shabbir Ali.
“CM KCR and minister KTR never clarified on the remarks made by the CAG and 15th Finance Commission on the auditing errors. The state government went ahead with huge borrowings. The Congress party would continue to expose the false claims of KCR-government.
“A serious financial crisis is staring at Telangana and the situation will worsen if corrective measures are not taken immediately. The Congress, in consultation with financial experts, will conduct department-wise analysis and come up with the real statistics to enlighten the people about the real economic situation prevailing in Telangana,” Shabbir Ali said.
