Telangana: 2 killed, 2 hurt in cement factory fire at Suryapet | Hyderabad News
HYDERABAD: Two workers died while two others sustained injuries after a fire broke out in a cement factory in Suryapet’s Mattampally village on Monday morning. The victims have been identified as Managapati Saidulu (48) and P Sai Kumar (23).
According to Huzurnagar fire station officials, the fire broke out at around 7 pm at Grey Gold Cements Ltd which was put out by the workers with the help of the locals. They also rushed the injured to hospital. While Managapati Saidulu died on the spot, Sai Kumar succumbed to his injuries while receiving treatment.
Fire officers told TOI that they were never contacted by the company and they came to know about the accident through other sources at around 10 am after which they rushed to the spot. By then, the flames had been put out. An investigation revealed that the fire started after a kiln backfired and the flames quickly spread to raw material inside the factory.
While other workers managed to escape the flames, the three closest to the kiln sustained critical injuries. “We did not get an emergency call from the cement factory, nor did local people call us. We found out about the incident through a WhatsApp message,” a local fire station official said. “We had to inform the company that they would not get any insurance unless we certified the accident.”
The company officials told fire department they did not make the emergency call as they managed to douse the fire and were not aware about the procedures. The local police registered a case of death due to fire. The bodies have been sent for post-mortem.
