WARANGAL: A man who had been stalking a 20-year-old woman for the past three years, entered her home in Kadipikonda village in Telangana’s Hanamakonda district late on Tuesday night and slit her throat for refusing to marry him.
The woman, Afzal Bi, survived the attack and has been admitted to a local hospital. The assailant, Baske Srinivas, 25, who worked as a driver, was caught by Afzal Bi‘s neighbours ad was handed over to the police.
Police officials said that Srinivas had been pestering Azfal Bi to marrying him for some time. He even claimed to have converted to Islam to convince her family to agree to the marriage. However, Azfal Bi’s mother, her only parent, refused to the alliance. Her father had passed away many years ago.
On Tuesday night, Srivinas entered Afzal Bi’s house while her mother, who works in a granite cutting factory, was on night duty. He attacked Afzal Bi with a knife, leaving her badly injured. However, she managed to raise an alarm after which neighbours gathered around the house.
Madikonda inspector G Venu said that on seeing the neighbours, Srinivas tried to escape but he was chased and caught. Locals thrashed him and later handed him over to the police. They also rushed a bleeding Afzal Bi to a private hospital where her condition is said to be stable.
