Scared & Scarred Locals Refuse To Return Home, Say Peril Lurks | Hyderabad News

HYDERABAD: A day after police evacuated a large number of residents from apartments and housing blocks located close to the multi-storied commercial building at Nallagutta which was ravaged by the massive fire, several apartment complexes remained locked on Friday as scared inmates did not want to take any chances.
“There are 29 flats in our complex. Presently, the residents are staying either in their relatives or friends’ houses following the advice of the police. We are convinced that it’s better to stay out for a few days for our own safety. We have decided not to take any chance and return hastily,” Gagan Paradise apartments society secretary Jagdeep Singh told TOI.
Recalling the devastating inferno which raged for almost 12 hours, Singh said some of the residents shifted a pregnant woman to safety amid the chaos. “Some families realised the danger of the fire spreading fast and shifted elderly and children along with household stuff as early as possible,” he said.
On Friday, a major part of Minister Road was kept out of bounds for motorists and onlookers. Shops on either side of the road remained shut. Police sealed the area to prevent untoward incidents.
“Since fire officials said there is constant diffusion of heat and smoke from the building, we have not allowed anybody to loiter in and around it. Only after the fire officials say that it is safe, we will take a call to allow motorists,” a traffic police said.
