HYDERABAD: Congress MP Komatireddy Venkat Reddy on Saturday demanded that the state government increase the compensation package to the people who lost their lands for the Baswapur reservoir project. He also participated in a hunger strike organised by the project oustees at the project site.
“How much compensation was paid to the people affected with projects such as Mallanna Sagar and Kondapochamma Sagar. Why is the BRS government discriminating in giving compensation?” he asked.
Chief minister K Chandrasekhar Rao should consider the case of Baswapur project oustees on humanitarian grounds, the Congress MP demanded. When the state government has money to construct a new secretariat by spending over 650 crore, it should not be a problem to release 350 crore for Baswapur project affected people, he added. tnn
