“The tribal boys have natural talent. They need financial support and a proper diet to excel in state and national-level competitions. Decided to provide them better coaching and material, besides diet with my own money,” Circle Inspector Srinivasa Rao said.
The former national hockey player Srinivasa Rao has been providing material and training to young sportsmen in the district for the past two decades and is now providing physical training to another 14 youngsters who are preparing for the general duty constable exams in Paramilitary forces. He has been organizing many hockey tournaments at the district, state, and even national levels.
Now, he focussed on the young tribal talent and give them encouragement with needed equipment. He says that the tribal belt in the undivided East Godavari and now part of the Alluri Sitarama Raju district has a natural talent. The youngsters are physically strong in these pockets with their natural build-up and their hard work. “If we can support them, they can win medals for the state and also the country. Suresh and Uday are performing better timing in 1500 meters. I am sure that they would win medals in the state meet at Srikakulam and would show their talent in national schools meet also,” he said.
