PIO with Hyderabad roots front-runner for Naperville city council seat | Hyderabad News
HYDERABAD: An Indian-American with roots in Hyderabad has become a front-runner for the Naperville city council in Illinois, Chicago in the US.
Ashfaq Syed, known for his community work is contesting the polls to be held on April 4. He has particularly been working for the economic development of Naperville and community safety. He is also pitching for affordable housing and welfare of all sections of society.
“I would like to make a difference in the city that I now call my home,” Ashfaq told STOI. He moved to the US several years ago from Hyderabad engaging himself in community welfare activities in addition to pursuing his professional work. He intially went to Dubai in 2015 and from there moved to the US. He has been a US citizen for the last seven years.
“All members of our community deserve a seat at the table. If the people of Naperville elect me, I will put my best foot forward to make Naperville City as one of the vibrant hubs of rich cultural diversity, which is one of our greatest strengths as a community,” 49-year-old Ashfaq told STOI on Saturday.
Ashfaq is a trustee on the Naperville Public Library board, a board member for Loaves & Fishes, Naperville Neighbors United and Diversity Advisory Board for the Daily Herald. He is also a graduate of the Naperville citizen police and fire academy. Ashfaq serves as a committee member for 360 Youth Services and civic engagement committee member at the Islamic Center of Naperville.
“We can attract new businesses to incorporate in the city of Naperville by offering innovative opportunities and encourage minority and women owned enterprises,” he said. Currently, he serves as the vice president for a global financial institution in Naperville.
