owaisi: Cannot lose another mosque after Babri: AIMIM president Asaduddin Owaisi | Hyderabad News

HYDERABAD: Stating that the nature and character of a place of worship cannot be changed as enshrined in The Places of Worship Act, 1991, and Supreme Court’s Ayodhya judgment that sought to impose an obligation to maintain its religious character as on August 15, 1947, AIMIM president Asaduddin on Monday called upon Muslims to take a vow not to lose another mosque after Babri.
Referring to the Gyanvapi mosque, where a pond used for ‘wuzu’ was sealed on a local court’s order on Monday, Owaisi posted a video clip of his speech on twitter, exhorting Muslims to send out a message to “satanic powers” that they won’t lose another mosque.
We were betrayed once in 1991-92, I hope we are not betrayed again,” he said.
Appealing to Prime Minister Narendra Modi to break his silence on the issue, he said, “We won’t allow them to sting us for the second time and it’s our responsibility to keep our mosques intact by regularly offering prayers there. We have understood their conspiracies. When I was 20 years old, Babri Masjid was snatched from me. We will not let them snatch more masjids. Gyanvapi was a mosque and will remain a mosque till the day of judgment,” he tweeted.
Owaisi said the Varanasi court order to seal the ‘wuzu’ area in the Gyanvapi complex, where Hindu petitioners claimed to have found a Shivling during a survey, is a “textbook repeat of installation of idols in Babri Masjid in December, 1949”.
“The Varanasi court order is a blatant violation of the Religious Places Act of 1991. How can a lower court violate an Act of Parliament and Supreme Court judgment? I hope the Supreme Court will take a serious view of this on Tuesday,” Owaisi said.
The Hindu side claimed the Shivling was found close to the wuzukhana, a pond used by Muslims to perform ablutions before offering namaz. The mosque management committee, however, disputed the claim. A spokesperson told a TV channel the ‘Shivling’ was part of a fountain and lawyers representing the mosque committee were not fully heard before the sealing order. The Supreme Court will hear the case on Tuesday.
“RSS has at least 50,000 mosques in its demolition list. They want to see what’s beneath the Taj Mahal and Qutub Minar and will find a way to claim their right to the other mosques too,” Owaisi said.
