NRI detained in connection with stampede during Chandrababu Naidu’s meeting in Guntur | Amaravati News

AMARAVATI: Police on Monday detained Vuyyuru foundation chairman and NRI entrepreneur Vuyyuru Srinivas in connection with the stampede at Telugu Desam Party (TDP) supremo Chandrababu Naidu’s public meeting in Andhra Pradesh’s Guntur on Sunday evening.

The stampede claimed three lives of women. The incident had taken place moments after Naidu left the place.

Guntur police registered a case under sections 304-A (causing death by negligence) and 174 of IPC against Vuyyuru foundation and its chairman Srinivas as accused in the incident.

The foundation had organised the free ration and clothes distribution programme by inviting the TDP chief to private college grounds in Vikas Nagar.

Police shifted Srinivas to an undisclosed place for grilling.
Police are also looking at the conspiracy angle behind the stampede.
“We will look into all the issues leading to the stampede,” said SP Arif Hafeez.
Srinivas is the director of NRI Streams INC of Washington DC.
He is also playing an active role in the Telugu Association of North America (TANA).
He had decided to actively involve in the TDP’s activities ahead of the next general elections.
He had planned the distribution of free ration kits and clothes to about 20-30 thousand people mostly from the slum areas of Guntur West assembly constituency.
With the TDP leaders and party disowning the stampede incident, Srinivas owned up to moral responsibility for the incident and announced an ex-gratia of Rs 20 lakh each for the next of kin of the deceased.
“It was not a party programme. It was organised by Srinivas of Vuyyuru foundation. He initiated the programme to help a few poor women. YSRCP leaders are unnecessarily dragging TDP and our party supremo Chandrababu Naidu into the picture,” said former minister Nakka Anand Babu.
Meanwhile, the doctors at Government General Hospital (GGH) are closely monitoring the health status of those undergoing treatment after getting injured in the stampede.
GGH superintendent Dr N Prabhavati said the condition of six women Jaheera, J Nirmala, Jnana Durga, Guntamukkala Soundarya of Swarna Bharati Nagar, Bhulakshmi and Suvartha was stable.
AP women commission chairperson Vasireddy Padma visited the GGH and enquired about the health status of the injured.
She directed the hospital authorities to provide the best possible healthcare to the victims.
