Accompanied by representatives of residential welfare associations, the delegation led by Sayanna and Arvind Kumar will go to Delhi and submit the report to joint secretary, ministry of defence, demanding reopening of all the 21 civilian roads in the north-eastern parts of Secunderabad and Cantonment.
At a meeting convened by TOIon Wednesday, the closure of civilian roads was widely discussed with all the stakeholders and what steps should be initiated to keep the roads open. Representatives of Federation of NorthEastern Colonies of Secunderabad and Green Sainikpuri and other RWAs took part in the virtual meeting. They urged the local military authority to reopen the closed roads immediately.
Arvind Kumar said: “Resident welfare association members have prepared a report by including relevant circulars and orders issued by the defence authorities on reopening of the roads in Cantonment area. ”
He said this report will be submitted to the MoD. “We will explain to the joint secretary on the need to reopen the closed civilian roads and also highlight the previous MoD orders on the issue,” he said.
He said despite specific orders were issued by former defence minister Nirmala Sitharaman in 2018 to reopen the roads and directives issued to the local military authority to follow due procedures, the LMA has not followed the orders. “We will impress upon the MoD to reopen the roads for the benefit of lakhs of commuters,” he said.
Arvind Kumar said: “We have to go with the gravity of the situation as lakhs of people are facing problems due to the closure of roads. Municipal administration and urban development minister KT Rama Rao wants us to take up the issue and provide relief to the affected people. ”He said the LMA had closed the roads citing security threat and other concerns. “But we cannot agree that the LMA has closed the roads which are used by the people,” he said. FNECS executive member Pankaj Sethi said: “The state government should fight with the central government on the issue. ” FNECS secretary CS Chandrasekhar said: “We are demanding thatall the 21 civilian roads be reopened by the MoD. ”
Retired Army officer and UFERWAS vice-president Major Shiv Kiran also said that all 21 roads must be reopened on a priority.
