Mancherial Fire: Ex-sccl Staffer Among 5 Arrested | Hyderabad News

HYDERABAD: Days after six persons, including two children, were charred to death at a house at Venkatapur in Mancherial in an alleged case of arson, Ramagundam police on Tuesday arrested five persons, including a surveyor and a former SCCL employee, for setting the house on fire.
The accused — private surveyor M Laxman (42), S Srujana (43), tractor driver S Ramesh (36), brick kiln worker V Sammiah (34) and ex-Singareni Collieries employee A Anjaiah (60) — have been arrested by cops from various places in Mancherial in the last 24 hours.
Ramagundam police commissioner S Chandrasekhar Reddy said the accused confessed to torching the house, which led to the death of Mandamarri VRA M Sivaiah (48), his wife M Rajyalaxmi alias Padma (42), their friend and SCCL employee S Santaiah (57), Padma’s niece G Mounika (24) and her children, Prashanti (3) and 18-month-old Himabindu.
Four of the five accused have a criminal record, said police. Laxman knew Santaiah and his family well and has an affair with Santaiah’s wife Srujana, while Santaiah had an affair with Padma.
“Srujana and Santaiah were frequently quarrelling about his affair with Padma. Santaiah told Srujana and her family that he would give his money and property to Padma and not them,” police said.
Santaiah used to live with Padma’s family. Srujana along with her father Anjaiah, convinced Laxman to eliminate Santaiah by offering him land and money. Laxman roped in Ramesh by offering him 4 lakh. They later roped in Sammaiah, a neighbour of the victims, to inform them about their whereabouts by offering 1.5 lakh. The accused purchased a four-wheeler to kill Santaiah in a road accident but failed twice in their attempt, police said.
On Friday night, Laxman along with Ramesh and Sammaiah purchased petrol in four cans. Laxman later left the place after dropping Ramesh and Sammaiah near Sivaiah’s house. Ramesh and Sammaiah poured petrol into Sivaiah’s house and set it ablaze, causing the death of the six persons.
