Kishan Reddy: No plan for delimitation of seats in Telangana, says G Kishan Reddy | Hyderabad News
HYDERABAD: Union tourism minister G Kishan Reddy on Monday made a significant remark that the Centre has no plans to take up delimitation of assembly constituencies in Telangana, a demand which the BRS has been making since 2014 to increase the number of seats to 153 from the existing 119 as per the AP Reorganisation Act.
At a press conference in Delhi, Kishan Reddy said: “There is no need to increase the assembly seats because of division of the state. In Jammu and Kashmir, delimitation is happening now because it did not happen when such an exercise was undertaken in the entire country,” he said.
BRS wanted the Centre to take steps to increase assembly seats in line with provisions adopted for Jammu and Kashmir. However, the Centre claimed an increase in assembly seats in Telangana and AP would require an amendment to the Constitution and it would be possible only after census was released in 2026, which would mean the exercise on enhancing the seats in the two states would be taken up only in 2031.
The minister said he was ready to discuss the country’s economy with CM K Chandrasekhar Rao if the latter uses parliamentary language. “I am ready for a debate… We are even ready to come to CM’s farmhouse or Pragati Bhavan,” he said. “The CM used assembly proceedings to spread lies about the PM,” he said. He said the IMF had predicted that India will overtake Germany to become the world’s fourth largest economy by 2027.
Taking a dig at the CM’s vow to resign if numbers he provided were incorrect, he wondered: “Are you moving around with a resignation letter in your pocket. After six months once the elections are over, you will have to go Raj Bhavan to submit your resignation,” he said. Speaking on per capita income (PCI) and CM comparing India with Bhutan and Bangladesh, he said: “I want to know what is PCI of various districts in Telangana. Why do Hyderabad and Rangareddy districts have higher PCI than Asifabad and others.”
He questioned why there was no debate in assembly on family rule, double bedroom scheme, irregularities in Dharani portal, unemployment allowance among other issues. Reddy said the state’s financial situation was in dire straits, with debts rising from 60,000 crore in 2014 to 5 lakh crore now. “Why was the CM silent on these issues in the assembly. Whatever mockery he was heaping on PM Modi in fact applies to him perfectly,” he said.
