Hyderabad cop, four of family killed in Karnataka accident | Hyderabad News
HYDERABAD: A head constable of Cyber Crime police station in Hyderabad and four of his family were killed when their vehicle carrying 10 passengers rear-ended a container truck in Kalaburagi district of Karnataka on Monday evening. The group was on its way to visit a temple in Kalaburagi.
While the cop, G Giridhar (45), his wife Anitha (30), two-year-old son Mayank, relatives Priyanka (16) and Dinesh (35) were killed, five other family members, Saritha, Rajitha, Sarala, Shalini and Harshavardhan escaped with injuries. All of them hail from Nagole and Borabanda areas in the city.
According to police, the family was travelling from Hyderabad to Dattatreya temple in Ganagapur in Kalaburagi. The accident occurred around 4 pm near Bhangoor village in Kalaburagi close to Telangana-Karnataka border. Police are yet to ascertain what led to the crash.
Four people died on the spot, while another victim succumbed while undergoing treatment. The injured were later shifted to a hospital in Hyderabad.
The bodies were being handed over to the family after postmortem, said Cyber Crime PS SI Mahipal, who went to the spot to assist the victims. Manaekhelli police of Kalaburagi district have registered a case under IPC sections 304-a and 337.
