HYDERABAD: Criminal cases were booked in different police stations in Hyderabad, against a total of 25 persons in the span of five days, possessing illegal water connections.
For the first time in HMWS&SB’s history, the highest number of criminal cases against persons booked, that too within five days. Two out-sourcing employees of HMWS&SB, who colluded with property owners in fixing the illegal water connections, also be removed from the official duties, permanently.
Vigilance wing of Hyderabad Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewerage Board (HMWS&SB) on Friday, released in a statement in Hyderabad and said that during the raids conducted in different areas in the city for the past five days, and noticed that a total of 25 persons committed criminal offence by installing illegal water connections.
In a fresh raid, conducted at Indira Nagar at Banjara Hills, one of the posh areas in the city, on Friday, four criminal cases were filed against the property owners on the reason of having illegal water connections. The vigilance wing however, verified HMWS&SB records and found that these property owners did not apply for new water connections, according to HMWS&SB vigilance inspector, P Tirupathi. Four criminal cases booked in the Banjara Hills Police Station, said the official.
Criminal action and necessary FIRs will be registered, if anybody involved in manipulating the water meters and issuing water bills against the proper readings of water meters, causing revenue loss to the HMWS&SB, warned vigilance inspector.
