HYDERABAD: The Congress has demanded that the TRS and BJP governments should stop playing drama and immediately start procuring paddy from the farmers as the harvesting has started from Ugadi festival.
Rice millers and middle men are purchasing paddy from the farmers at less than Rs 1400 per quintal as against the MSP of Rs 1960.
“It is the responsibility of both TRS and BJP governments to purchase paddy. Firstly, the state government should procure paddy from the farmers and subsequently the centre should purchase it from the state either in the form of rice or paddy. Why are farmers being put to trouble,” asked Telangana Congress president A Revanth Reddy.
The Congress leader also sought to expose the TRS drama stating that they have planned a dharna in New Delhi on April 11. “What is the fun of staging a protest when the Parliament is not in session. Who will listen to them and what kind of pressure they can exert on the Modi-government,” asked Revanth?
The TPCC chief also demanded that chief minister K Chandrasekhar Rao should seek an appointment of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and union food minister Piyush Goyal to take up the paddy procurement issue.
“Why is KCR not trying to meet Pm Modi? What is stopping him from meeting at least Piyush Goyal. It is CM KCR who has given an undertaking to the centre that Telangana will not give boiled rice. It is KCR who had surrendered the interests of the farmers to the central government,” Revanth alleged.
He said CM KCR along with TRS members should stage a dharna at Jantar Mantar in New Delhi well before the ongoing session of Parliament ends on April 8. The Congress cadres will provide security to CM KCR from being arrested by the police, Revanth said.
