BRS government fails to fulfill promises made to farmers in Telangana: Former minister Ponnala Lakshmaiah | Hyderabad News

HYDERABAD: Former Telangana irrigation minister Ponnala Lakshmaiah on Friday charged the Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) government with having failed to implement its 2018-poll promise of waiving off crop loans up to Rs one lakh of each farmer in the state.
“The bank accounts of 16 lakh farmers have been freezed as they turned into NPAs due to the government depositing crop loan waiver amounts into their accounts. As a result, these farmers have been borrowing money on huge interest rates from various other sources,” the Congress leader alleged.
Referring to BRS president and chief minister K Chandrasekhar Rao’s slogan abki bar kisan sarkar, Ponnala said there are another 14 lakh tenant farmers who are neither getting Rythu Bandhu nor any other special financial assistance from the KCR-government.
“The BRS government has also stopped paying compensation to the farmers towards crop damages due to natural calamities. Many farmers are also not getting MSP for their agricultural produce,” he alleged.
He demanded that the KCR government should come out with a white paper on how many acres have been irrigated with Kaleshwaram project water, how many 2-BHK units have been constructed and how many of them allotted and how many homeless fa,il;ies are waiting for housing scheme in the state, how many Dalit families are yet to be covered with 3 acres land distribution scheme.
“Will KCR come for a debate on alleged corruption in Kaleshwaram project, power purchase agreements, mission Kakatiya and mission Bhagiratha projects, Palamuru Ranga Reddy Lift irrigation projects, under construction unremunerative power plants among others. The Congress is ready for a debate on any sector any time,” he said.
The BJP which has reduced the NREGA budget and toppled the governments in eight states should stop talking about democracy, he said.
