Biliti Electric to invest Rs 400 crore in new EV, battery manufacturing plant in Hyderabad
HYDERABAD: California-based Biliti Electric is investing Rs 400 crore in setting up the first phase of a manufacturing facility for electric three-wheelers (E3W) as well as well as Lithium-ion (Li-Ion) battery packs at Velimela on the outskirts of Hyderabad.
The new facility, which is spread over nearly 13 acres, will have a phase-1 capacity to produce around 2,000 E3W per month and is expected to create around 10,000 jobs.
The company, which has been set up by the founders of Hyderabad-based Gayam Motor Works, is positioning itself as a significant player in the global EV market and the greenfield facility is expected to emerge as a pivotal hub for production of EVs and battery packs to cater to the growing demand for sustainable last-mile mobility solutions.
Speaking at the groundbreaking ceremony, which was held on Sunday, US consul general in Hyderabad Jennifer Larson termed it as a significant initiative fostering strong business ties between US and India.
She also expressed delight at Biliti’s newly established business partnerships with prominent US companies like GoBolt and FreshDirect.
Biliti Electric CEO Raja Gayam said the groundbreaking ceremony marks a pivotal moment for Biliti Electric as it embarks on a journey to reshape the future of last-mile mobility globally.
“Biliti Electric specialises in creating a scalable battery swapping network for urban mobility and energy storage and has already deployed its vehicles and batteries across 15 countries and five continents, with plans to leverage batteries as distributed energy resources, particularly in urban environments, contributing to energy storage and grid stabilisation at scale.”
Apart from the upcoming facility at Hyderabad, Biliti Electric operates assembly plants in the United States, Portugal, and Kenya with its Taskman technology being utilised by prominent players such as Amazon, IKEA, JUMIA, BigBasket (Tata), Voi Mobility, Zomato, Flipkart (Walmart), among others.
