Amid push, Telangana reaches 30 lakh precaution dose coverage | Hyderabad News
HYDERABAD: Vaccine coverage data shows that 30 lakh precaution doses have been given in the state across all age groups, with the country’s total precaution dose coverage standing at 11 crore. Out of over 6 crore total doses (first, second, precaution) administered, 5.36 crore doses were of Covishield.
Private vaccine centres in the state largely limited themselves to administering first and second doses, with only a dozen private centres in the state providing the precaution vaccine. The highest number of people (3.05 lakh) in Hyderabad took the precaution dose. The precaution dose coverage in Kumarambheem Asifabad district was low, with only about 15,000 people receiving it.
Following repeated requests from the state, the Central government authorised administering precaution doses to people of all ages, rather than just those over the age of 60.
“This has resulted in a improved precaution dose drive. For a long time, total precaution dose coverage was at 3%, but it has now risen to more than 10%,” an official said. Officials also said that the Centre had announced free Covid-19 precaution dose coverage for mid-July. Telangana currently has over 1,000 government-run vaccination centres. “Many people continue to be negligent in taking precaution doses. We have to persuade them to take precaution doses even if they are free,” an official said.
Interestingly in the state, there is no gender disparity in taking doses. While 3.15 crore doses were given to women as against 3.19 crore doses were given to men.
