Sukanya Samridhi Yojana: 6,208 post offices in Telangana surpass target | Hyderabad News


HYDERABAD: A popular girl child scheme, Sukanya Samridhi Yojana, in Telangana set a new record during a special drive-Amritpex-2023 held between February 9 and 11, and surpassed the target by opening accounts.
Marathon exercises are being done by the postal staff of the Telangana Postal Circle in 6,208 post offices across Telangana. A total of 34,384 Sukanya accounts were opened against a target of 28,970 in the state thereby achieving 118.69 per cent, according to M Santosh Kumar Narahari, assistant director of Postal Services, Hyderabad Region.
On Monday, the postal official released an official statement to the media in Hyderabad on the achievement of the special drive.
“A total of 4,266 Sukanya accounts opened in Khammam division, and stood top, while 3,858 accounts in Secunderabad division, Karimnagar division (3,503), Hyderabad South East (2,629) accounts and in Nalgonda (2,239),” the official said.
Regarding the Hyderabad region, a total of 23,652 accounts were opened and postal staff of the Hyderabad headquarter region opened 10,372 during the drive, said postal official, Santosh Kumar.
In Telangana, between January, 2015 and January 2023, a total of 8,62, 776 Sukanya accounts were opened, the release stated.
Kumar gave a few examples of a beneficiary of Sukanya account holders.
For instance, in Bhadradri Kothagudem district, Bhavani (name changed), was opened ‘Sukanya Samriddhi Account’ in 2015 and she had withdrawn Rs 6,87,800, in December 2022, to meet her B Tech I Year expenses.
