Chandrababu Naidu and Pawan Kalyan vow to fight together against rally prohibition in Andhra Pradesh | Amaravati News
AMARAVATI: In a significant political development, Janasena chief Pawan Kalyan met TDP supremo Chandrababu Naidu at the latter’s residence in Hyderabad on Sunday.
The meeting lasted more than two hours as both leaders engaged in discussion over several issues, including the latest political situation in the state.
No other senior leader from either side accompanied them as Naidu and Pawan wanted to delve into the political strategy to be adopted in the next elections.
This is the second such meeting between the two opposition leaders in the state.
Analysts believe that it looks like Janasena is moving ahead to forge an alliance with TDP in the coming elections.
Addressing a joint media conference after the in-camera meeting, Naidu and Pawan Kalyan declared that they have decided to fight together against the state government’s dictatorial policies.
They vowed to make the state government withdraw the controversial GO- (no-1) issued to contain the opposition parties.
“We have not discussed the issue of poll alliances. We wanted to forge a united platform (Prajaswamya Parirakshana Vedika) to take on the undemocratic policies of the state government,” said Naidu and Pawan Kalyan.
The Janasena chief said that he would also discuss the issue with the BJP leadership and take the saffron party along with them.
He said that they would invite all the democratic forces to join hands with them to save the democracy in the state.
Naidu returned to Hyderabad from his stormy visit to his home constituency-Kuppam in Chittoor district only on Saturday night.
Pawan Kalyan, who is also in Hyderabad, rushed to Naidu’s residence to extend his solidarity to the TDP chief.
Naidu is reported to have explained how the police imposed curbs on his tour in the constituency in the guise of a new GO issued to prohibit roadshows, rallies and meetings on the streets.
“I have not seen such an undemocratic approach by the police in my long political career. It is not about my tour. It is about democracy. We need to take on the government united,” Naidu told Pawan.
In fact, Pawan had faced a similar situation during his visit to Visakhapatnam a couple of months ago.
After the police prevented him from conducting the roadshow, Pawan suspended his meeting in the port city and reached Vijayawada.
Subsequently, Naidu went to the hotel and extended his solidarity.
Interestingly, Janasena supremo Pawan Kalyan had already announced that he would not allow a split in the anti-incumbency vote to ensure the defeat of the YSRCP in the next elections.
Without directly stating the alliance with TDP, Pawan Kalyan dropped hints that he is ready to go with the yellow brigade even at the cost of snapping ties with the saffron party.
However, activists from both TDP and Janasena were keenly waiting for the formal announcement about the alliances.
It was rumoured that BJP leadership had been exerting pressure on Pawan Kalyan not to go with TDP in the next elections saying that they would emerge as a major political front in the state.
Although Pawan is managing cordial relationships with BJP’s top leadership, he is not comfortable with the state leadership and wanted to snap ties with the saffron party.
