HYDERABAD: After much delay, the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) is finally moving ahead with the construction work of Uppal elevated corridor.
The standing committee on August 10 has given the nod for administrative sanction of 12 crore for shifting of power and water lines, which were the main causes for the delay.
This 45-metre wide flyover, which starts at Uppal Junction and ends at the Central Power Research Institute in Medipally aims to decongest the urban limits of the Hyderabad-Bhoopalapatnam sector. The elevated corridor is expected to ease traffic heading towards Yadadri, Bhongir and Warangal direction.
The project is being executed under engineering, procurement, and construction mode at an estimated cost of 675 crore. Once completed, the flyover will stand as the second longest flyover after PVNR Expressway (11.6 km) in state.
Since then, works have been going at a snail’s pace owing to land and property acquisition issues. Sources said that 330 crore of the total cost is only for the property and land acquisition. So far, construction works from Uppal Ring Road to Modern Bakery towards Ramanthapur have started.
