2 dead as floor of under-construction building collapses in Hyderabad | Hyderabad News
HYDERABAD: Two construction workers died while two others were injured worker was rescued after a slab laid atop the fourth floor collapsed on them in the Shanthi Nagar area of Hyderabad on Saturday. The deceased were identified as Daya Shankar (32) and Anand (30), natives of Uttar Pradesh.
Police said that the incident happened at around 3pm when the workers were involved in concrete work on the third and fourth floor of the building.
Police said there were 15 workers in the building at the time of the incident.
Officials said that the slab along with the pillars collapsed on four of them who were on the fourth floor.
Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation’s (GHMC) Disaster Response Force (DRF), fire services, NDRF personnel along with police and revenue officials reached the spot and began rescue operations.
GHMC officials in Kukatpally circle revealed that the building had permission to construct Ground-plus-two storey structure and the other two floors were built illegally.
“Further, unauthorized additional floors were already detected and the show cause notice was also issued to the owner of the building on January 03, 2023, for laying a 3rd floor slab and raising columns for the 4th floor on permitted Stilt +2 upper floors with a direction to stop further unauthorized construction by giving sufficient time as per orders of the high court,” deputy commissioner of Kukatpally circle noted in a press release.
GHMC officials are proposing to file a criminal case against the owner of the building identified as Patlori Padmaja and also the site engineer for not following safety measures during the laying of concrete for 4th floor slab resulting in its collapse.
Cops said that rescue personnel managed to take two workers stuck in debris who sustained injuries and sent them to a nearby hospital.
